this baked brie en croute appetizer is so simple & easy, and it is a total crowd-pleaser. it’s the perfect thing to make when you want to impress your guests but don’t have much time on your hands. everything is (gasp!) store-bought. all you have to do is toast the almond slivers & assemble. the cheese melts and gushes out of the flaky crust, the jam adds a touch of sweetness & the almonds that much-needed crunch. delicious!

so i know i said everything is store-bought. BUT, that does not mean that all brands are created equal. crucial, in my opinion, is the crescent dough. i use the immaculate baking company brand because i don’t like how pillsbury’s ingredients include hydrogenated palm oil and partially hydrogenated soybean oil–yuck! hopefully you can find a brand at your local store with better ingredients, or, as an alternative, you can always use puff pastry dough (or try to make it yourself, but that’s a journey on which i have yet to embark.

and, don’t forget the sliced apple to serve the baked brie with, alongside crackers. something about the cheesy bite on the apple just tastes SO good. mm!

Ingredients

1 8oz. can of crescent roll dough (again, i prefer the immaculate baking co. brand)

1/2c. strawberry preserves (you can use whatever flavor you like to pair with cheese)

1/3c. sliced almonds, toasted

1 round brie cheese (12 or 13 oz.)

1 egg

assorted crackers & sliced granny smith apples

Instructions

heat oven to 375.

get the dough out of the can & press together the perforations with your fingers (you can use a rolling pin but I don't bother).

toast the sliced almonds--make sure to keep an eye on them because they'll burn quickly!

spread 1/4c. of the preserves in the center of the dough & sprinkle with toasted almonds.

place the cheese on top of the preserves and almonds.

spread the remaining preserves on top of the cheese & sprinkle with more almonds.

take each corner of the dough and fold it up & around the cheese--make sure the dough is pressed together and there are no holes when finished (otherwise the cheese & preserves will ooze out when it bakes).

beat the egg in a small bowl and brush the top of the pastry.

grease a cookie sheet (this will make getting it off MUCH easier--just use a little butter or whatever you have) and place the pastry-wrapped cheese in the oven.

bake for 20 minutes (or until golden brown).

serve warm with crackers & apple slices.
